Too Late to Take Traffic School
- question from 5/1/2020 by Bob, filed under Insurance and Driving School for Ticket
My son had a ticket in July and has a point on his insurance. Is it too late to take driving school for a ticket?
My son got a speeding ticket in Alameda County California back in July. Our insurance rates skyrocketed because he has a point on his driving record. Farmers told us to take a traffic school course to reduce the rates. My question is it too late to take traffic school?
Unfortunately, you cannot take traffic school (driving school for a ticket) to remove points or tickets currently on your driving record. The case must be open and approved for traffic school by the court where the ticket is filed. Your son can try contacting the court to request to reopen his case. If approved, he will need to pay the required fees and the court will assign him a traffic school due date.
Once he completes traffic school and the court has processed his certificate with the DMV, then the point would be removed and his driving record gets updated.
Hope this helps, but please let us know if you have any further questions. Thanks!
