Is it true that DMV only allows you to take traffic school once every 18 months?
- question from 3/11/2020 by Alex, filed under 18 months and How to Sign Up for Traffic School
How do I enroll for another course after having completed my first traffic school already this month?
Hello,
I'm trying to sign up again for another ticket that I received in Riverside County. I received 2 speeding tickets in two months. I already completed your course for one of those tickets and I need to take the course for the other ticket. How do I enroll for another course after having completed my first of two required traffic school sessions? Is it true that DMV only allows you to take traffic school once every 18 months?
TrafficSchool.com Says
Good Afternoon Alex-
Thank you for choosing TrafficSchool.com for your traffic safety needs. The DMV only allows you to take traffic school once every 18 months which is calculated from the violation dates. If you are attempting to register again with the same email address in a short time, then our system is set up to help avoid another registration since you are likely not eligible for traffic school again.
Unfortunately, you would not be eligible for traffic school for your second ticket and a point for the citation will be on your driving record for 3 years. The DMV only allows you to take traffic school once every 18 months which is calculated from the violation dates. The courts also have a disclaimer about this advising you to only pay the admin fee if you have not taken traffic school for a prior ticket issued within 18 months (see below). Even if you take traffic school and the court dismisses the case in their system for the second ticket; the DMV will not remove the point since traffic school has already been applied to the first ticket.

You may attend Traffic School if you meet the following criteria:
• Your citation is for a moving violation of the California Vehicle Code.
• You have not attended traffic school within the past 18 months for any other violation.
• If your citation is for speeding, you did not exceed 25 mph over the posted speed limit.
• You were not operating a commercial vehicle at the time of the violation.
• Your citation does not contain a charge that requires a mandatory court appearance.
• You were not cited for alcohol or drugs.
