Arlington Driving Safety Class - Requesting Defensive Driving By Mail
In Arlington, ticketed drivers can request to take a Defensive Driving Safety Class by MAIL 30 days from the issue date listed on the ticket. Request applications will be reviewed by an Arlington Judge to determine eligibility for the defensive driving program. Court costs and an administrative fees must be paid, proof of a current Texas drivers license must be submitted, and current proof of insurance must be provided. The administrative fee and court costs are subject to change, but are currently around $110. Other fees will apply if your citation was for Speeding in a School Zone.
If eligible for ticket dismissal, you will be required to submit a) proof of having completed your online Defensive Driving Safety Class and b) a copy of your driving record to the court within 90 days. You'll receive notification in the mail of the date by which you must submit this proof.
Arlington Licensed Drivers ARE NOT eligible to take an Online Driving Safety Class if any of the following apply:
- Driver has a commercial driver's license (CDL)
- Driver no longer has his/her driving privilege
- Driver received a violation for lack of liability insurance and driver does not provide a copy of current vehicle insurance
- Driver was speeding 25+ mph over the speed limit
- Driver received a ticket due to Fleeing/Eluding a Police Officer
- Driver received a ticket due to Leaving the Scene of an Accident
- Driver received a ticket due to Failure to ID and/or Render Aid
- Driver received a ticket due to Reckless Driving
- Driver received a ticket due to Passing a School Bus
- Driver has taken a Defensive Driving Safety Course within the last 1 year
You will be notified by the Arlington Municipal Court, via mail, if your request is denied.
If you are not eligible for an Arlington Driving Safety Class, then you must enter your plea in person or by mail. Mailing a plea can be accomplished by using the back of the citation you were issued.
