Driving Safety Course
In the city of Forth Worth, Texas, eligible drivers may request to have a qualified traffic citation dismissed by completing a Driving Safety Course (Defensive Driving Course) approved by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
Am I Eligible for Driving Safety?
To be eligible for Driving Safety in the city of Ft. Worth, the following requirements must be met:
- You must submit your request for Driving Safety School within 11 calendar days from the issue date on your ticket. Late requests may require judicial approval.
- Your violation did not involve a construction zone (work zone) with workers present
- Your violation did not involve passing a school bus
- You cannot be currently taking or have previously taken a Driving Safety course within the past 12 months of your ticket issue date
- Your citation cannot be for speeding in excess of 24mph over the posted speed limit
- You must be at least 17 years of age
- You must have a valid Texas driver's license or military ID; Commercial Drivers Licenses excluded (CDL Drivers CANNOT take traffic school to dismiss a ticket)
- You must have current liability auto insurance company that covers you, the driver.
If you indeed meet the above listed requirements, please request the right to take a Defensive Driving Safety Course before the Court (within 11 calendar days from the date of issuance). You can make this request by mail or in person.
