Am I Eligible for Online Arizona Defensive Driving School?
Each Arizona county may have slightly different traffic court requirments when it comes to attending defensive driving school to erase a traffic citation from your MVD driving record. Read information applicable to your specific county to learn what you need to do to fulfill your defensive driving requirement correctly:
General Arizona Defensive Driving School Eligibility Requirements
Not sure if you are eligible to go to Arizona defensive driving online? If you can answer no to these three questions, you are generally eligible to enroll in an Online Arizona Driving School course:
- Have you taken an AZ defensive driving class in the last 2 years? If you took a defensive driving course to dismiss a ticket with a citation dated within the last 24 months of your current citation, you may not take defensive driving online (unless ordered or permitted by the AZ Court System or the AZMVD)
- Was your Arizona traffic citation for a criminal act? If your traffic ticket was from an accident that killed or seriously injured any person, you can't go to online AZ defensive driving.
- Were you a CDL driver license holder when you were ticketed in Arizona? Online Arizona Defensive Driving cannot be taken by any individual ticket while holding a valid Commercial Drivers License.
- Is your due date less than 7 days away? You must complete your course 7 days prior to your court date.
As long as none of the above conditions apply to you, you are eligible to take online Arizona defensive driving to dismiss your traffic violation and have the points kept off your MVD record in AZ. Enroll now to get started on your course today.
Arizona Vehicle Code - Traffic Citation Point System
In Arizona, the most common reason licensed drivers take an online defensive driving class is to remove points from their official MVD driving record. Points are derived from moving violations, each moving violation having it's own point total assigned to them. Most Arizona traffic citations are of the two or three point variety, including common infractions like speeding, making an illegal turn, and rolling a stop sign. When you get to high a number of points on your Motor Vehicle Division driver record, your Arizona driver's license is in risk of being suspended or revoked. The point system helps reinforce the idea that driving in Arizona is not a right, it is a privilege.
Here is a sampling of the most common AZ moving violations and their attached driving record point values:
- Excessive Speed (speeding) = 3 points
- Driving over or stopping in a gore area = 3 points
- Failure to stop for traffic signal, stop sign or yield the right of way leading to serious injury = 4 points
- Failure to stop for traffic signal, stop sign or yield the right of way leading to death = 6 points
- Leaving the scene of an accident = 6 points
- All other lesser moving violations (non-criminal) = 2 points
The best way to keep the above points off your Arizona MVD driving record is to simply know and obey Arizona traffic laws. When you are unable to do that, then our online Arizona defensive driving school course is the next best way to relearn driving laws, erase points from your record, and ultimately protect your driving privilege in Arizona.
