California DMV Driving Record Resources

Are points showing up on your driving record, even though you completed traffic school? Or maybe you're looking for the DMV forms that allow you to dispute or correct your driving record? We are here to help!

Reasons Why a Point May Be Showing on Your DMV Record

Did you pay all your ticket fees?

In addition to your ticket amount, you are required to pay an administrative fee to the court in order to be approved for traffic school. The court will not process your certificate of completion unless all of your ticket fees have been paid.

Do you hold a commercial driver's license?

All commercial drivers must go through an extra step. Once your court has fully processed your ticket with the DMV, you will need to contact your local DMV Driver Safety Unit (DSU) in order to get the point masked from your record. Also, the driver/student must contact the DSU for clearance. Someone else cannot call on your behalf. You can find your local DSU at https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/driver-education-and-safety/driver-safety-offices/ and contact them.

Did you complete traffic school more than once within 18 months?

The DMV only allows you to take traffic school once every 18 months which is calculated from the violation dates. The courts also have a disclaimer about this advising you to only pay the administrative fee if you have not taken traffic school for a prior ticket issued within 18 months. Even though you took traffic school and the court dismissed the case in their system for the second ticket, the DMV will not remove the point because traffic school has already been applied to the first ticket.

Did you attend traffic school for a non-eligible violation?

Certain violations are not eligible for traffic school. Examples of violations that are not eligible are misdemeanors, speeding 25 mph or more over the speed limit, speeding over 100 mph, etc. You can always confirm with the court whether or not your violation was eligible for traffic school.
