Texas Parent-Taught Driver Education Online

Why Texas Teens Take Parent-Taught Driver Education Online

In Texas, the Department of Public Safety allows driver education to be completed online if the course is part of the approved parent taught driver education program. Our program, also known as PTDE (Parent Taught Drivers Ed), helps teenage students, with the guidance of their parents, learn important topics of traffic safety and ensures qualified adult supervision during required driving hours.

Benefits of Choosing the Online Option for Your PTDE

  • Texas DPS Approved Online Training
  • 24 Hours a Day, 7 Days a Week Customer Support
  • Get Free Certificate to Apply for Your Permit!
  • Take Our Course from Anywhere: Your Home Computer, Your Tablet, or Even Your Phone!

How Does Parent Taught Drivers Ed Work?

After you register for the course, student and parent will be provided the necessary information to fulfill the parent-taught requirement and begin the online program material. Every student and parent is required to complete a Texas Department of Public Safety packet along with the online drivers ed course. To get started:

  1. Parents register your teen online
  2. Fill out downloadable DPS packet and mail it in
  3. Finish unit 1 and we will send you a free certificate you can use to apply for your permit! (That's right! Teens 15+ can apply for a TX permit after the first unit with proper DL forms)
  4. Complete the remaining course units online
  5. Fulfill your 34 hours of Parent-Taught driver training

Getting a Texas Drivers Permit

Teens between the ages of 15-17 can apply for a Texas drivers permit after taking the first unit as long as they submit the proper DL forms (driver license forms). The student and parent (or legal guardian) must bring forms DL-90A, DL-91A and DL-91B to their local TX DPS office. These forms will be included in the packet you get from the DPS.
